STONEY RIDGE GARDENS WIN AWARD
 We are pleased to announce that the gardens at Stoney Ridge Estate Winery were nominated for and have won the Spring 2008 Garden Contest award from Communities in Bloom. Communities in Bloom is a Canadian non-profit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement and the challenge of a national program.
We are currently building a new addition to the gardens at the winery – the Fortress Parterre Garden. This garden will be a miniature castle that will have a French Parterre garden inside and surrounding it. This new garden will be officially unveiled at our annual GARDEN OPEN HOUSE on Saturday June 21st. Please join us on that day for a complimentary barbeque and a day of enjoying the gardens.
Other gardens include our Herb Garden, the Japanese Shade Garden and Waterfall, the Rose Garden, an English Garden, and a Contemporary Garden.

STONEY RIDGE FOUNDERS SERIES 2005 MERITAGE SELECTED AS 2008 RED WINE OF ONTARIO LEGISLATURE
The Stoney Ridge Meritage 2004 has been selected by the Ontario Legislature as their official red wine for 2008. This was a heated tasting competition with many Ontario wines competing for this honour. Members of Parliament voted overwhelmingly on our wine as their official selection. Other accolades for this wine in the past include a Gold Medal at the recent Cellars of the World Wine Competition. |

APPOINTMENT OF NEW CHIEF WINEMAKER
It gives us great pleasure to announce the appointment of Mr. Ray Cornell as the new Chief Winemaker at Stoney Ridge Estate Winery.
Ray joins the winery after serving as Chief Winemaker at Fielding Estate Winery in Beamsville, prior to which he was Chief Winemaker at Hernder Estate Winery. Ray is familiar with the Stoney Ridge operations, having once served as Assistant Winemaker at the winery.
I would also like to personally thank our previous Chief Winemaker, Liubomir Popovici, for his significant contributions to the success of Stoney Ridge Estate Winery for the period of 1999-2007. Liubomir has moved on to be a Winemaker at one of the largest wine companies in the world, offering him considerable international opportunities. This career advancement is a true testament to his skills, and we look forward to hearing of his continuing successes in the future.
Mr. Jim Warren, Founding Winemaker of Stoney Ridge, will continue to offer his considerable advice and help at the winery.

Stoney Ridge Estate Winery 2005 Proprietor’s Reserve Brut Sparkling Wine
Description:
I very rarely add a sparkling wine to the website … mainly because there aren’t a heck of a lot of Ontario sparklers out there. That is about to change – I have heard about a few on the horizon from a number of sources. Recently, I got a taste of the newest one to be launched. Stoney Ridge has gone to painstaking detail to make sure their first sparkler followed the Methode Traditionelle (aka Champagnois) exactly … in fact at one point, winemaker Liubomir Popovici called Champagne houses in France to find out how full the bottles should be before he started the fermentation in bottle process. After almost 2 years in the making, she is ready to launch – and how does one launch a Sparkling wine, by cracking one open of course (not by breaking one bottle against another). On March 8th, 2007, Stoney Ridge proudly unveiled their new wine at the Canada Blooms Show in Toronto. A blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir grapes – hand harvested from their very own vineyards. The grapes were quickly crushed, fermented, then re-fremented in bottle and aged 12 months. Disgorging happened in February 2007 – and as the French say “Voila” – sparkling wine. So after all this, how does their first effort taste? I would have to say very good. Yeasty, toasty citrus notes greet the nose, with some very mild Mac apple aromas … the palate is citrus with yeasty-toastyness, lots of persistent tiny bubbles that stick around long after the wine has been poured – (eg. even after 20 minutes of holding the same glass, the bubbles were still there) … and the finish – medium long with a great buttery conclusion that lingers pleasantly. Only 3300 bottles were made (275 cases) of which, some are going to the LCBO for Christmas. So if you want to get some, now is the time, or you can try at the end of the year … but good luck. Congratulations to Stoney Ridge and Liubomir – a great first effort … now how do you top this one?
