Description
For comparison and contrast to the ’02 version, try the newer 2005 version. Heir apparent to master winemaker Carlo Negri, Tim Reilly tried a different yeast strain in this year’s version and ended up with a very different, yet impressive wine. The smells jump from the bottle the moment you pop the cork, and even more aromas are released into the air as you pour it into the glass. Lovely smells of lychee and mandarin orange mingle with peculiar fresh cut grass undertones (which you’d be more likely to find in a Sauvignon Blanc). The taste is also quite fresh with citrus and orange peel along with a tart bite at the end. It’ll be interesting to see, in 2009, how the ‘05 compares to the 2002 when it reaches the same stage of its lifespan, only time will tell … but it’s drinking well right now.
