Description
Here’s a unique blend from a unique winery … Chesslawn is one of Ontario’s newest wineries, having open their doors in October of 2005, and located in of all places, Bolton, north of Brampton. Not the place one would think of for a grape winery. The owners are a family dairy farm who were looking for something more challenging, and growing grapes north of the big smoke seems to have struck them as that challenge. Dave Matson brings his passion for wine to both the growing of grapes and making of wine. He has also, I am told, had a hand in the some of the Willow Springs creations. This wine is an interesting blend of Chardonnay and Vidal. It has a citrus nose, which is the Chardonnay influence, with hints of apple and pear – the Vidal influence. On the palate, you’ll find some sweetness along with a more pungent finish, which almost seems sour, but with a lingering pleasant finish. I for one, will be keeping my eye on this winery. It’s Rielsing has already sold out, which means they’re on the right track to pleasing Ontario’s palate.
