Description
Short crop means there are less grapes to go around, and in this case, Norm Hardie, the winemaker of Carmela Estates, did the only thing he could do … blend. With a limited quantity of grapes in 2005, there wasn’t enough to make single varietals from these grapes (Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling) – so Norm mixed 10% Chardonnay, 17% Pinot Gris and 73% Riesling and came up with Terroir Twist, a delicious sipper that should make the rounds of patios every where come the summer of 2007. However, if you grab a hold of one now, it’ll do quite well beside the Christmas bird. A nose of apple, peach, pear, mango and hints of butter are followed on the palate by good acidity and a medium finish. The nose suggests sweetness but the tongue tells a different story with an appley taste (cross between granny smith tartness and mac sweetness) along with some lemon zest and grapefruit zing.
