Tawse Winery 2006 Late Harvest Cabernet

Author :Michael Pinkus - Grape Guy
DescriptionDescription  This is an interesting wine for Tawse … originally picked to make an icewine, the sugar levels ended up being too high, and the grapes were slightly botrytis affected. So they bought some extra juice, which they added to bring down the sugar; but that’s against icewine rules, so they made it as this delicious late harvest wine. Now only an 8 or 9 on the sugar code, depending on who you talk to – the smells are unmistakably cherry, and so are the flavours; and wouldn’t you know it, you get chocolate from the mid-palate onward, and a hint of cinnamon at the end. Finally there’s the bonus of a long smooth luscious finish. Guys, looking for that special wine to impress your girl? This is it. Ladies, planning one of those sinfully indulgent nights with the girls? This is for you too. $20 well spent either way. Unfortunately, I’m too late, Tawse is now sold out … hopefully you were able to put your hands on a bottle or (at least) your lips to a tasting … if not, there’s always next year.
