Description
Brian Schmidt is the 6th Beatle! Well I figure if somebody is already claiming 5th Beatle status, Brian should apply for 6th. Brian Schmidt is the winemaker of Vineland and when sampling this wine and later writing this review, I had the song “Fool on the Hill” running through my head, if you’ve been to Vineland you’ll know they reside on and near plenty of hills. (To the tune of Fool on the Hill) “Day after day, alone on his hill … the winemaker of Vineland is sitting perfectly still. And nobody wants to bug him, so they leave him quite alone, but the way that he makes his Rieslings they get better every year. He likes his alcohol nice and low while the aci-di-ty is raised, to open the smells we do some glass spinning round …” Okay, so maybe I’m getting silly here, but this Riesling is truly something to sing about. The nose is apples, pears, pineapple with plenty of tropical nuances. In the mouth, it’s got great biting acidity – grapefruit cocktail flavours along with Mac and green apples and a minerally finish. This is classic Ontario Beamsville Bench Riesling and it’s delicious. The 9.5% alcohol is also a reason to celebrate because to get your usual afternoon buzz you’ll need to open a second bottle – yum! Drink now thru 2018. Price: $13.65
