Chateau des Charmes 2006 Estate Bottled Riesling

DescriptionDescription  Reviewed – July 2, 2007 … I don’t think I am going to be able to settle the debate here, but I will set you on the road to starting your own. Are the estate bottled wines of Chateau des Charmes are black labeled – as the winery claims; or are they dark-blue, as I have heard many patrons claim? Discuss amongst yourselves as I describe another fine Riesling in the estate-bottled line. This wine comes from 29-year-old vines, which are producing excellent fruit to be making a wine like this one. A nose reminiscent of fresh peaches and apricots with some floral bouquet and very light petrol notes … currently the taste is key-lime and tart apple, but in about six months that should settle and begin to develop some peach and ripe apples to go along with that key lime and Granny Smith; petrol notes should also follow. Des Charmes Rieslings are always pretty ageable too – so lay this one down and watch it develop. Cheers. Price: $16.95
