Description
When it comes to blending JL Groux has got to be one of the masters. With Hillebrand he was instrumental in launching the Trius line. Now with his own winery he can mix and blend to his heart’s content. And he’s done it again with WildAss Red – a side venture to his Stratus winery. At 19 dollars a bottle it is the lowest priced red in the Stratus line – but unfortunately it is not available directly thru or at the winery. There is a completely separate website to order from: www.wildasswines.com, (in half case lots of 6 bottles) and if you wish to sample the wine it can only be done at certain restaurants … a complete list can also be found on the website. The blend is Cab Franc, Merlot, Cab Sauv, Gamay, Malbec, and Syrah, all grown here in Ontario … and best of all it’s quite tasty, the backyard BBQ will never be the same – one panel member remarked “Well worth the price. Do we have any more?” Lively, fruity, with just a hint of tannin. While having to buy the WildAss in lots of six may not be your cup of vino, it sure is fun to drink. So might I suggest splurging this season on something well worth your money and time. Availability: at time of review the 2002 is all sold out, the 2001 is reported to last until Christmas 2005, and the 2000 is in limited supply of about 500 cases.
