Dan Aykroyd 2006 Sauvignon Blanc

DescriptionDescription  When Dan Aykroyd announced that he was getting on-board with a winery I thought, “Great another celebrity-poser that’s going to make ‘wine’, there goes the neighbourhood”. I find myself being a little tougher on these wines because celebrity status will inevitably sell the wine, therefore, the wine in the bottle has to be a little better than average for me to want to drink it. I also thank my lucky stars that no celebrity has gone the Phil-Collins-album route and splashed their face all over the front label … in the particular case, I’m not sure I would have been able to stare at Dan and drink his wine. But Dan did partner up with a good name in Niagara, namely the Diamond Estates group (Lakeview, Eastdell), and the wines keep getting better and win awards … including Wine of the Year for the Signature Vidal Icewine at the Ontario Wine Awards this past April and a Gold at this year’s All Canadian Wine Championships for this year’s Sauvignon Blanc. This first Sauvignon Blanc in the line up, has lots of those Savvy B nuances we all know and love, namely grass and citrus smells that give it a clean, fresh, lively and outdoorsy aroma – fresh laundry hanging on the line on a spring day after a good rain. In the mouth, it’s crisp and clean with plenty of melon and citrus in the form of sweet orange with lemon curd on the finish – which means it’s a touch tart. Easy sipping, easy drinking and non-taxing – a very pleasurable and enjoyable Sauvignon Blanc for summer – no singing the blues here. Price: $14.95
