Description
The “social” moniker is another way of saying “medium sweet” says owner and winemaker John Rufa, “the sugar code is hard to apply to fruit wines because while a raspberry at a level-3 is quite nice and tart, a cranberry at a three is undrinkable, so it’s about perception.” This wine is raspberry from start to finish. The mid-palate comes off sweet while the finish is tart, or as some would say, “somewhat bitter”. “Imagine biting into a raspberry,” John says. “sweet fruit and the end is tart, that comes from the seeds.” The seeds of raspberries are too small to pick out so fermentation happens with them there and that bitterness gets into the wine naturally giving it more complexity. I would have to agree, a beautiful wine with lots of depth and character. Price: $14.80 – Rating: ****½
