Muscedere Vineyards 2006 Cabernet Franc

Here’s a delicious Cabernet Franc made for sipping right now. The boys at Muscedere used to make an oaked and unoaked version of the grape - but they’ve settled on something in the middle, and it really works. 8 months in a mix of new and used French oak, the wine is pleasant to drink now, but could sit around for another 3 years with ease. Pillitteri Estates 2002 Merlot Reserve

I tried this wine during the 2008 Niagara Wine Auction Weekend; I found out it was available and immediately ordered a bottle to try. 2002 was such a great growing season in Ontario that the red wines from that year practically make themselves, but a deft hand, by then winemaker Sue Ann Staff, coaxed even more greatness from these great grapes. Now check out this Merlot for instance … Merlot in Ontario usually needs time to age and come into its own. Now, with 6 y...

Vineland Estates 2007 Cabernet Franc

For those of you who were unimpressed with the 2006 version of this LCBO staple (because you fell in love with the ’05 and the ’06 was no ’05), can now come back to the fold. The 2007 version is on the shelf and it’s beautiful and better then ever. You’ve probably heard that 2007 was one of the best years ever in Ontario (if not the best), especially for red wines. This is the first ’07 red out the cellar door of Vineland and it shows great mid-term aging potential, as well as good drink-now-...
