Kacaba Vineyards 2007 Pinot Gris

This Pinot Gris is pretty much what you’d expect – a fruit driven summer quaffer. The nose is loaded with tree fruit, while the palate follows suit (tree fruit laden) with a touch of sweetness. Light, refreshing and very easy drinking. Only 160 cases were made, so best get yourself some sooner rather than later, because the moment summer hits, this’ll be the wine you reach for. Price: $16.95...

Hillebrand 2006 Sauvignon Blanc – Artist Series

This bottle of screwcap Sauvignon Blanc is one of the few in Hillebrand’s arsenal and part of their value priced Artist Series: a series of wines that have a unique piece of artwork on the label from a “contemporary Ontario artist”. The Sauvignon Blanc’s artist is Deborah Campo and the name of the piece is The Petrified Forest – which was inspired by the Georgian Bay landscape. These bottlings are just one way that Hillebrand combines culture with wine; but culture and wine are nothing if you...

I also thank my lucky stars that no celebrity has gone the Phil-Collins-album route and splashed their face all over ...

Chateau des Charmes 2006 Estate Sauvignon Blanc

Is this a screwcap I see before me … an odd little take on Shakespeare, but very apropos because this type of closure is definitely an oddity at the Chateau. I venture to guess this is their first commercial VQA-screwcap wine – and I can see why. The Kiwis made Sauvignon Blanc famous and fashionable and brought the screwcap to the fore while doing it (99% are under Stelvin closures). The Chateau invokes a little New Zealand in this bottle, while still keeping it Ontario – and not just with th...
