Rosehall Run 2006 Chardonnay

Chardonnay lovers should be thrilled to sink their teeth into, or should I say, wrap their palates around, this rich beauty from Rosehall Run in Prince Edward County. When fully aerated, the nose is full of smoky asparagus and reminiscent of buttered movie theatre popcorn (yet with far fewer calories). As it hits the tongue there’s under-ripe peach (you know the crunchy kind), but it smoothes out beautifully through the mouth, then ends with a burnt-toffee-like finish. This is an oaky-smoky C...

Vineland 2005 Sauv Blanc – Rosomel Vineyard

This Sauv Blanc has all the usual suspects of Sauvignon Blanc – the three G’s are present: grassy, gooseberry and grapefruit … it’s fresh and crisp with lots of racy mouth-watering acidity; there’s also some orange blossom and melon flavours littered in and amongst the typicity. In making this wine Brian Schmidt (Vineland’s winemaker) decided to put half of it into French oak for 6 months to round out some of those flavours, and it really worked – this is a delicious, thirst-quenching, yet ver...

Vineland 2006 Sauv Blanc - Neufeld Vineyard

Part of the four 2006 Sauvignon Blanc series currently available at Vineland … This one is another single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, but this time winemaker Brian Schmidt decided to vinify half of the wine in stainless steel and the other half in French oak for 8 months. The results are the best of both worlds. The nose has citrus in the form of lemon Pledge, while also giving way to other more tropical smells like pineapple, melon and a touch florally. The barrel influence comes through in th...

Vineland 2006 Sauvignon Blanc – Smith Vineyard

Part of the four 2006 Sauvignon Blanc series currently available at Vineland … single vineyard sourced Sauv from Niagara-on-the-Lake and all stainless steel fermented and aged; this Sauv Blanc is purely terroir driven. The nose has citrus and some vanilla (?) aromas, but also along for the ride is petrol and ammonia (cat’s pee), both are very subtle but plainly there. The resulting flavours are a tamed lemon citrusness and biting, almost bitter-like finish. Price: $25.00...

Vineland 2006 Sauvignon Blanc

Part of the four 2006 Sauvignon Blanc series currently available at Vineland … this base model sources its fruit from the Vineland Estate in Beamsville, and is all stainless steel fermented and aged. It has all the typicity of flavours and smells you’d expect from Sauvignon Blanc. A nose rich in grassy and citrus – including a touch of lemon rind … the flavours follow suit with a grassy-lemony crispness that keeps you swallowing for what seems like days afterward … that’s the effect of good ac...
