Harwood Estate 2007 Gewurztraminer

From a new winery (opening 2009) in Prince Edward County, comes a very attractive Gewurztraminer for Gewurzt-lovers. Although made from young (6-year-old) vines, it’s all here, a nose that’s lychee, spicy and floral with rose petals and perfume. The taste is light and easy with good floral character, perfumey notes and nice spiciness. It’s quick finish is super refreshing on a hot day … not that I currently remember what those are like (review written April 4, 2008), but come summer this shoul...

What an incredible value this is – and I don’t say that all too often about Tawse wines, so listen up and pay attention. This is considered the “low end” or “bottom tier” wine, but it’s top shelf to me. The nose is sweet peach, green apple and citrusy-orange-peel … that sounds pretty good so far but wait, it gets better. In the mouth, it’s juicy and sweet with just the right amount of tart acidity to balance it all together, there’s a bit of minerality, wet stone and some orangey-tangerine as...

Tawse Winery 2005 Robyn’s Block Chardonnay

The best thing that ever happened to Tawse, so far, was Deborah Paskus leaving and Pascal Marchard being hire on as wine consultant. This guy has about 25 years of experience with the two grapes Tawse loves to make wine from: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and that experience really shows in the bottle. This is the very first wine Pascal had a hand in making and it’s a stunner (and I’m not just talking about the price). The nose is rich and vibrant, aromas of pineapple core, rusty-caramel apple a...
