Daniel Lenko Estate 2006 Unoaked Chardonnay

This high alcohol (14%) Chardonnay spends no time in oak, but does see extended lees contact (7-months), that's what gives it the buttery softness and vanilla scents on the nose, there's also tree fruit and peach pit along with that vanilla-yness in the mouth - smooth and enjoyable, fresh and lively. Due for release February 2008....

Daniel Lenko Estate 2005 Signature Chardonnay

Due for release in February 2008, this 200 case, produced only in good vintages, spends eighteen months in French oak (exclusively for this line of wines). Currently, it's young and fruity with good vanilla oak characteristics; an ageing potential of 10+ years according to Daniel, mainly due to its high acidity. And how, you may ask, do they decide the "good vintages” for the making of this wine? It seems that that job is up to Blackie the dog - usually a shunner of bad fruit, Blackie eats th...

Daniel Lenko Estate 2006 Reserve Riesling

A little bit of misnomer here with the “reserve” branding – Lenko claims they used to make two Rieslings, then they realized the reserve sold out faster than the regular every year, so everything became reserve. But barring that little hiccup, it is a very tasty offering that has ageing potential up the yin-yang. Lemon and peach greet the nose, while peach, apricot and citrus dance playfully on the tongue ... sharp acid makes this one a little puckering in the mouth, but also gives it great ag...

Daniel Lenko Estate 2006 Viognier

As with most wines made at Lenko’s winery, the Viognier is made in very limited quantity (225 cases). It was released in the fall of 2007 and will make for a great summer sipper or pair well with a light dinners on the patio. The nose is deliciously apple and white peach with sniff-all-day-edness to it (my notes say “incredibly aromatic”) ... The taste doesn't disappoint with crisp pear, apple, peach and a luscious long finish....

Daniel Lenko Estate 2004 Old Vine Chardonnay

Lenko makes a lot of Chardonnay: Unoaked, French oak, American oak, Signature -all at different price points and appeal-levels for the Chardonnay lover ... My favorite is this American oaked version - it just seems to have more complexity on the palate and I enjoyed its playfulness in my mouth. Starting with the nose, there was sweet vanilla inter-playing with apple, peach and a touch of caramel (vanilla and caramel, how can you go wrong?). The mouth showed buttery softness with more vanilla,...
