Bergeron Estate 2006 Chardonnay

Made with a deft hand and knowledge of what the consumer is looking for. The wooding is light (6 months, for 30% of the wine, in French oak) – the vanilla and butter from the wood come through on the front palate, while the middle-to-end is all fruit. Price: $18.00...

Sandbanks Winery 2007 Riesling

I believe this to be winemaker and owner, Catherine Langlois', best Riesling to date. The nose is lusciously loaded with peaches, apples, floral and melon … it’s fresh and playfully-lively – while in the mouth, honeydew reigns supreme with lemon-flower on the back palate – delicious. Price: $15.95...

Fool on the Hill 2007 Pinot Gris

This is the County Cider Company & Estate Winery's upper echelon wine and it is a standout. Made by winemaker Jenifer Dean, this wine is beautiful in both colour, nose and flavour. The light peach juice colour comes from 14-hours of skin contact. The great nose has smells of poached pears, mandarin orange and peach iced tea; while the palate proves to be just as enticing, with apples, lemon and a beautiful pear mid-section … wonderfully refreshing. Price: $19.95...

Huff Estates 2007 Riesling Off-Dry

For something with such simplicity in its aromatics you don’t expect a lot from the mouth, but this Huff off-dry really brings it’s a-game to the palate. The apple and peach nose leads to a very peachy and pleasant palate with a touch of sweetness (1) and a kick of limeade at the end. Not surprising that this is their most popular Riesling at the tasting bar and from a sales standpoint, better hurry down to get you summer supply. Price: $14.95...

Cave Spring Gewürztraminer 2006

After much controversy over the viability and marketability of Gewurztraminer in Ontario it would seem that our wineries and winemakers have finally started to embrace this grape with many fine examples on winery shelves. I can think of three great ones off hand … Featherstone, Henry of Pelham and this one from Cave Spring; a beauty in every sense of the word. The nose is pure Gewurztraminer: spicy, rose petal, floral, a touch of petrol with tropical fruit hints hiding in the back. There’s a...
