Chateau des Charmes 2006 Chardonnay Musque

This bottle of wine is lots of fun – or should I say, this bottle contains lots of fun … either way I can’t see not enjoying yourself with this wine around. The apples pulsate up from the glass and really get into the nose, from there you’ll deal with a spicy-floral character in the mouth and a wonderful mac apple finish … Fun? You bet....

Angels Gate 2006 Riesling

Angels Gate may have changed winemakers, but they continue their march towards the gates of heaven with some really spectacular wines. This is another fine example of a Beamsville Bench Riesling. The nose is peach and green apple dominated, while in the mouth the peach and apple are joined by some citrus bite … pleasant and tasty....

Featherstone Winery 2007 Black Sheep Riesling

Winemaker Dave Johnson spent a few weeks in New Zealand last winter and brought back with him some very interesting ideas – one of which was the insertion of sheep-labour into his vineyards. That is not a misprint, I did write and you did read, “sheep labour”. New Zealand, having so many sheep as part of its population, puts them to work pruning the grape vines. In honour of one of these docile creatures that helped out, the lone black sheep, the Black Sheep Riesling was born. What is really...

Jackson-Triggs 2006 Grand Reserve Riesling

This is the first time Jackson-Triggs has made this level of Riesling since 2001 … I guess they were just waiting for a special year, great fruit, or the planets to align just right. Whatever the reason I’m glad to see it again because this is a wonderful sipping wine. The nose is supercharged with peach and just a dash of petrol, the taste follows suit with peachy softness, petrol is already beginning to develop, but very subtly and it’s made in on an easy drinking style. There was also a hi...

Featherstone Winery 2007 Sauvignon Blanc

Mr. Johnson (Dave Johnson, winemaker of Featherstone) goes to New Zealand and what does he return with … a new recipe for Sauvignon Blanc perhaps? (a wine Featherstone is making a name for themselves with - along with Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Cab Franc, Gamay, and whatever else they put their grape stained fingers to). But instead of copying the Kiwi’s with their grassy, gooseberry and grapefruit, Dave has put his own spin on this wine. The nose is riddled with tropical fruit, melon and flora...
