13th Street 2006 Funk Vineyard Riesling

Thirteenth Street has always been known for making good, solid Rieslings, and in a variety of styles. This is their dry style with plenty of acidity to cleanse the palate, making it an excellent food wine. The nose is peach, candied apple, floral and honeysuckle; while in the mouth there’s lots of minerality with a dash of peach and mouth watering acidity that keeps you swallowing long after the wine has traversed down the throat....

13th Street 2006 Chardonnay Musque

“What’s a Chardonnay Musk?” I heard someone say, “it doesn’t smell like musk.” No in fact it smells like peaches, sweet pear and a touch of floral. It doesn’t taste musky either, though it’s drier than you’d assume, given the nose: tart green apple and white peach. As for the name, it’s pronounced “Moose-K”, and it’s a clone/natural crossing (debate still on-going) of Chardonnay … let’s call it the more aromatic and sweeter cousin, okay? It could even be the darling of your next party – it...

13th Street 2005 Chardonnay Reserve

I caught the note in the 13th Street brochure about this wine out of the corner of my eye … it was in the Coming Soon section and it read, “Really Good!!!” Crafted from the hot 2005 vintage, this Chardonnay was put into 50% new and 50% 1 year old French oak barrels and it came out … Really Good! Currently the nose is all vanilla and toffee (I like both). The flavours are also barrel oriented: oak, caramel, vanilla and almonds … the finish is also interesting as there seems to be a lingering ...

Chateau des Charmes 2005 Estate Bottled Riesling

Many of you believe that Riesling is truly Ontario’s grape, and many writers and wine lovers are on side with that … this Riesling is one the pro-camp can hang their hats on. A delicious nose that has wafts of peach and pear, mango and lime and some macintosh apple thrown in for good measure. The palate is soft with fruits like white peach and sweet apple, with a wonderful limeade finish. Light and fruity with good acidity and a lovely lingering finish. Another winner from the Chateau....

Vineland Estates Winery 2004 Semi-Dry Riesling

As the weather warms up the body and mind start to crave cold whites – instead of the heartier innard-warming reds of winter … so on a warm evening we cracked this bottle open and were floored … first by a virtual fruit cocktail of smells, notes of apples, pears, peaches caress the nose. Thankfully the taste followed through on the nose’s promise, with ripe delicious apples and honeydew melon and a touch of cucumber to tone down the melon’s stronger influence. Good balance of sweetness to acid...
