Pillitteri Estates Winery 2004 Riesling Icewine

Pillitteri devotes 55% of their production to icewine … that’s a lot of frozen grapes and a lot riding on the hope of minus-10 degree weather, but when it works it pays off – and Pillitteri has many icewines that pay off handsomely; like this one right here. This Riesling is smooth and luscious in the mouth and a wine you could just sit and sniff all night long, if the taste weren’t so darn tasty. Dominated by apples and pears on the nose, with hints of sweet apricot and peaches lingering in t...

Jackson Triggs 2004 Late Harvest Riesling

A well made late harvest, or, as I like to call them, “poor man’s icewine”, is one of life’s great pleasures, and this one ranks right up there with some of the best I have ever had. A great nose with aromas of apple, apricot, peach and honey. On the palate a multitude of fruit flavours like apples, honeydew and kiwi; blended with spices such as nutmeg and cinnamon. As it warms in the glass the fruit flavours strengthen for even more pleasure in the mouth. Not overwhelming in sweetness (9), ...

Mountain Road Wine Company 2004 Botrytis Affected Riesling

Here’s a wine you’d usually find in the dessert wines catagory with sweetness levels that can top out around 14 –16. It is usually found in half-bottles, and with a label that says “Select Late Harvest”. Mountain Road has designed this little sweetie on the lighter side, at about half the sweetness of a normal S.L.H. (7.2), and as a bonus they have put it into a 750ml bottle, making it even a better bargain for the price. Nice for dessert, aperitif, or even to cut the spiciness of the orient ...

Southbrook 2003 Vidal Ice Wine

Here's an absolute stunner that you should let sit on your rack and let it age a bit. Southbrook has produced an ice wine that has been aged in, appropriately, Canadian Oak. Honeyed nose and great lingering finish. Currently the wine drinks well with excellent balance, but it tastes a tad too sweet. This aspect of the wine will soften and mellow over time due to the oak ageing. Limited quantities makes this a perfect candidate for that special occasion a few years down the road such as a gr...

Peller Estates 2004 Cabernet Franc Ice Wine

There are two reasons to celebrate here: ice wine fans will rejoice because this one is absolutely spectacular. Cab Franc fans will rejoice because Peller has done your grape justice with this succulent beauty. Sweet and smooth, not syrupy at all, great balance between nose and taste ... and ... are you ready for this - it tastes like chocolate covered cherries (in liquid form)! Chill and enjoy - forget pairing this with anything, drink it on its own NOW....
