It’s true, I have said in the past that icewine tastes like … for lack of a better term … icewine. Comments like that, refer mainly to those wines made with icewine staples, namely the Vidal and Riesling, which produce flavours and smells we’ve all come to know and love in our icewine. Today, winemakers are stepping outside the icewine ‘staples’ to include whatever is hanging out there on the vine: Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, etc. This is Lailey’s first go around using Cabernet Sauvignon as an icewine grape and I believe winemaker Derek Barnett has done an admirable job with it. The smells are of baked red fruits (strawberry and raspberry jam-ish) with a touch of cinnamon … the palate follows suit with a certain amount of delicacy to the sweetness. There’s also nice balancing acidity and medium length to the finish. Price: $35.00 / 200ml – Rating: ****
