From the Cellar

Antinori 2004 Badia a Passsignano (Italy)

06 Feb 2023

Freshly opened / slight chill from the fridge ... The Wine

? Cork is in great shape. Colour is good.

? dark spiced fruit, there's a little earthy and some coffee bean ...

? Got some dried fruit, dry leaves, coffee bean, dried strawberry. This one's in some pretty good shape. Impressive.

40 mins ... Badia 2004
It's starting to open up now ... Showing more fruit and less of those tertiary notes. Interesting.

90 mins ...
Still better than expected - drinks well. Palate is certainly better than the nose, which has gone graphite, pencil shavings and cedar.

120 mins ...
Now we are starting to see a drop off of fruit and the palate has followed the nose. The forest floor notes are coming out more strongly. The wine is drying out with each sip.

150 mins
Now it's all cedar and wood chips.

Bottom Line ...
It had a good run and I enjoyed more than half the bottle. If you have any, don't decant, you'll kill this wine. Take it slow, right from the bottle.
