Haven’t tasted a Calamus wine worth crowing about in a long time, until now. This under $20 Merlot is quite the wine for the price. Those looking for California, fruity and plush might be impressed by the cassis, blueberry and mocha notes, but the acidity takes it out of California and the interesting spiciness brings it into the more cool-climate realm of Ontario. This needs a few years to mellow, but you can always decant or pull out your favourite big glass.  Price $19.95 - Rating: ****+
