Two grapes you've heard of and one your should take note of make up this wine from Villa Nova, located in Norfolk County, Ontario. Gamay and Pinot Noir make up 80% of the blend (50 & 30 respectively) but there's also 20% of the hybrid Marquette, which is slowly creeping its way into the consciousness of Ontario winemakers as potentially a grape to take over from Baco and Foch. Hints of raspberry, black pepper, sour cherry all make an appearance on the nose and palate with plenty of acidity that works its way thru from start to finish. Price: $12.50 - Rating: *** 1/2
