I suspect in the coming years you’ll be seeing more Viognier from wineries here in Ontario; it’s white wine’s answer to the ABC crowd (those oppose to Chardonnay). Viognier seems to be a grape that holds the interest of wine drinkers because it’s just different enough from Chardonnay to be interesting. This version starts off with real tropical aromas, a little floral and slight peach notes. The palate should hold your interest, as you try to decide whether it barrel or lees, which is the source for the vanilla bean that streaks across the tongue (it’s lees for those who are curious). Tropical fruit, apple and good acidity are all hallmarks of this wine, the vanilla plays a part on the deliciously long finish. Price: $24.00 – Rating: ****
