Hillebrand 2006 Artist Series Gamay Noir Rosé
It’s that time of year, time for Rosé – a time when those pink alcoholic liquids just seem to hit the sweet spot on the palate … mind you, they don’t all necessarily have to be sweet; in fact, some of the best rosés in the world are dry, and lucky for us, that particular style is coming back into fashion. This Hillebrand Rosé is made with the Gamay grape, the grape found primarily in Beaujolais - those light fruity reds from France. This wine is definitely on the darker pink side, colour-wise, the smell is dominated by sweet cherry and the flavour profile is strawberry and sweet cherry … but don’t expect lots of sugar here, the taste and finish are drier than the nose let’s on, especially on the finish; and there’s a dustiness here, suggesting it’s not just a “drink now” wine, but a hold for a few years kinda wine also (3 years I’d say).
