Big Head 2012 The Biggest Red

To call something “The Biggest” you have to really mean it, considering Big and Bigger are quite good themselves (by the way, those are names of two other Big Head wines). Equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot with 10% Petit Verdot added – blended and fermented together with 41 days of skin contact, 16 months of fermentation and 20 months in barrel … whew, those are some big numbers. The nose is quite deceiving with alcohol and wood dominating, but the palate is softer than expected with juicy cherry (lots of cherry in fact) and raspberry … at 16.3% alcohol this is one of those “panty remover” wines you’ve heard talk about because it’s juicy and seductive on the palate, the nose should resolve itself in time. Price: $49.00 – Rating: ****
