Here’s a wine that needs a little time to come around – after 18 months in a blend of 60% French and 40% American oak (55% of which were new barrels) the wine shows a grittiness that should resolve itself with time in cellar. Today you’ll find raspberry, tobacco, smoke, black cherry – mostly on the nose … palate is where things will improve: right now it’s full & rich with black fruit (mainly cassis) with hints of vanilla. Cellar for 2-3 years then drink up to 5-7 years. Price: $45 – Rating: ****
