Not sure what varieties you think about when I say Andrzej Lipinski or Big Head wines, but I can tell you Chardonnay would not be at the top, or even middle, of my list – but maybe I should rethink that. Seven months in new 1000L barrels keeps the wine from getting too woodsy … plus the grapes go through a gentle whole cluster pressing and wild fermentation – a hallmark of Big Head Wines. Results are seductive to the nose with oak spice, buttered toffee and green apple. Palate follows closely with the oak-spice entry while adding peach and sour apple before giving way to a lovely spicy finish. Simply put this wine has a backbone of fruit amongst some very gentile oak tones. Price: $28.00 – Rating: ****+
