Although Pinot Noir has been in the Hillebrand portfolio for many years they just aren’t known for the grape: this year’s version is the “launch pad” to the new improved Pinot program at Hillebrand (according to winemaker Craig McDonald) – wild fermented, fewer barrels, all French, 30% new and 11 months of ageing with a serious focus on the grape. Nose is black cherry, cranberry and floral; palate shows a delicacy and finesse that has not been there before: feminine, floral, earthy, cranberry, black cherry with a raspberry-cranberry finish dosed with white pepper … if this is the new beginning they’re off to a great start.
