Even in a year like 2012 when all grape varieties fared well, blends were still all the rage, and why not, when you can put Cabernet Franc (38%), Syrah (37%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (23%) together (and age it in oak for 18 months) and come out with something like this. The dark side of these grapes have emerged with the likes of cassis, black cherry, chocolate, black pepper and other spices with silky tannins on the finish … it’s approachable now but will age very well.  Price: $59.95 – Rating: ****+
