Dark Horse is one of Ontario’s newest wineries (opened July 2016) but it is not located in a traditional wine region, it’s located in Grand Bend at the southern end of Lake Huron. This Chardonnay is labeled as a “special reserve”, it is both barrel fermented and aged and offers up robust Chardonnay moments without going over the top. Sure it’s oak-driven, but it still has that buttery and spicy character familiar to Chardonnay-lovers plus baked apple, cinnamon/nutmeg, burnt vanilla and butterscotch … It’s Chardonnay with an edge and some oomph.
