The namesake of the Broken Press Syrah has long been thrown away or relegated to the scrap heap; but Creekside keeps the name alive with great success – and without breaking a press every year. There really is an elegant approachability to this year’s version with floral, cassis and raspberry before showing off white pepper and great acidity. This certainly is a food friendly Syrah which spent a grand total of 20 months in barrels and delivers on a long smoky-peppery finish.  Price: $39.95 – Rating: ****+
