“Select” wines traditionally have a higher percentage of appassimento fruit within – here it’s a blend of 40% Petit Verdot and 18% Malbec (all dried) meet 22% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot (that remain fresh) aged 10 months in older barrels: 5 separately and 5 together – so these guys are well acquainted, and all using natural fermentation (wild yeast). The wine is well-balanced between the sweet fruit of cherry, raspberry and strawberry and the smoky and the almost chocolate like nuances to the finish – but it’s the acidity that keeps it all in check.
