I learned a lot about whole cluster Pinot Noir while I was in New Zealand, and many are using the technique to add depth to their Pinots around the world … Shiraz Mottiar at Malivoire seems to know a thing or two about whole-cluster as well as 30% of the grapes that went into this wine went through that method. Nine months in French oak (13% new) develops soft red fruit notes with both sour and red cherry leading the charge, hints of smoke and spice also shows up … it’s a fresh wine with plenty of acidity to keep it that way.
