Leaning Post is one of three producers who nab a piece of old vines block of Lowrey Vineyard Pinot Noir in Niagara on the Lake (the others are Thomas Bachelder and Wes Lowrey himself). Ilya Senchuk (winemaker) allows this wine to wild ferment and go through malo, and puts it in barrel for 15 months – all French (20-25% new) and then he “rough filters” it before it goes into bottle. The result is a strawberry-cranberry fruited wine that has enough earth and violet notes to make it, and keep it, pretty. Price: $42.00 – Rating: ****+
