From the oldest block of Syrah vines in Ontario (planted in 1997) – a mere six rows near the silver bridge leading to the winery. Co-fermented with 5.5% Viognier and aged 12 months in older French and American oak barrels … what makes this wine such a hit is the texture and structure it has both for the mouth and the nose … plenty of dark fruit plus mocha, smoke and pepper. There are other elements like floral, black raspberry, blackberry and cassis that linger both on the mid-palate and the finish. A very sippable yet also age-able Syrah from those 20-year-old vines. Price: $32.95 – Rating: ****+
