This French oak homed Cabernet from the surprising 2017 vintage spent 24 months in wood and was bottled un-fined and un-filtered. Lots of dark, brooding fruit lies in the “weeds” here; while the tannins are definitely there, they are not intrusive nor aggressive. There are the occasional hits of spiced-black cherry, subtle vanilla and nutmeg with a long finish of cedar, cassis and coffee. The wine definitely has time on its side, as aging potential is 5 to 10 years, but it’s surprisingly approachable now. Price: $90.00 – Rating: ****+
