This came as quite a shock, as I am convinced unoaked Chardonnay is one of the most boring wine style in the world (next to Pinot Gris) – but winemaker Jeff Innes has a few tricks up his sleeve with this one and he must use a bunch to make this wine this good. It’s a fruit forward number with notes of honeycomb and vanilla, along with apples, peaches and grapefruit curd … and that all brings a certain amount of excitement to this blasé style … good work and really well priced. This is a real winner and a rare score from me for this type of wine. Price: $15.95 – Rating: ****
