Look, Boca Nera is not for everyone … It’s that dry Italian-style of wine in the same vein as Barolo, but the blend is a winery secret. What I can tell you is the acidity is high, it’s aged 3 years in French oak (two months in new then the rest of its time in seasoned barrels) all on lees, and it’s limited to one thousand bottles every year. Having tried this wine since its inception I can say without a doubt that this is Tony Auciello’s best ever cuvee: spiced-plum, peppercorns, balsamic and even some peppered-strawberries on the finish – this is the year he has nailed the style he is going for. The wine has a character all its own not found anywhere in the County, very much like the owner of the winery himself. Price: $75.00 – Rating: ****
