Calamus Estate 2012 Rosé, 125
I consider this wine more of a blush than a pure rosé. Rosé starts out with red grapes and becomes pink from short tern skin contact, blush, on the other hand, is a mix of red and white grape’s juices and they blend them together causing them to blush – think of it as your first junior high school dance. This is a blend of 85% Gewurztraminer with dashes of Cabernet Sauvignon (11%) and Cabernet Franc (4%) … peach and strawberry intermingle with orange and lemon pith, and it all carries through to the finish and has a certain weight in the mouth that is very welcome. As for the name, the wine was made in honour of the 125th anniversary of the barn that houses the winery. Price: $12.70 – Rating: ****
