The most prominent part of the label is the proclamation "Je Suis Arrive" (I have arrived), this is the first wine of the 2013 vintage, a tough vintage in the minds of many ... but now the harvest is essentially over and it's time to taste the fruits of the year's labours. This Gamay Nouveau has a lovely, rich and alluring nose: raspberry, cherry along with some strawberry backing. There's also a real grapiness to it, almost Kool-Aid-esque with hints of herbal backing it up. The palate doesn't truly deliver on the promise of the nose, instead it's strawberry Kool-Aid middle ends with a bite of sour cherry and an herbalized short finish. My recommendation would be to chill this one a bit, to bring out the fruit, and enjoy before Valentine's day. A tough wine for a tough vintage but ultimately this wine is enjoyable for what it is; and for the price it a great way to sip on the first wine of 2013. Price: $11.95 - Rating: *** 1/2
