Big Head 2012 Pinot Noir
He's at it again, Andrzej Lipinski is drying grapes and taking names, but this time under his own label, Big Head Wines ... and from what I see (and taste) he's doing his own venture right. This 100% dried fruit Pinot Noir might irritate some folks, heck the notion of drying grapes in Ontario is sending some into a tizzy, but heck they've been doing it in Veneto for decades with great success, so why not try it here in the new world ... after all it's about the final product, and not always how it gets there (but always by legitimate means). This was naturally fermented in 1-2 year old barrels and aged for 6 1/2 months ... the result is a wine with lots of great red fruit aromas like cranberry, sour cherry and strawberry; the palate has got a nice spice, good tannins and a smoky, bitterness near the finish that works well with the fruitiness of the wine. Price: $48.00 - Rating: ****
