Stratus 2010 Malbec
Hopefully you're thinking the same thing I did when I saw this bottle hit the table: "WTF, Malbec? In Ontario?" ... well if we're getting on board with Syrah, Malbec seems the next (il)logical choice. But I think JL Groux has made a case for it in a hot vintage like 2010. Nose is raisin-ed with plum, herbal, spice and blueberry syrup notes. Palate follows the nose with similar flavour profile and there's a certain tension between the fruit and acidity ... it's not sweet and juicy like your Argentine Malbec it's nicely spiced with pepper, and not overly fruity, instead it has a chalky quality to it. Price: $48.00 - Rating: ****
