Rockway Vineyards 2010 Red Assemblage - Small Lot Reserve
Ever since they changed to Rockway Vineyards it seems that Rockway's wines have been getting better ... I guess once you've established yourself as a good golf course you then must focus on the wines you produce. Winemaker David Stasiuk has really ramped up the program to the point where it has some real credibility now (let's hope this continues). The Red Assemblage is a blend of 38% Cabernet Franc, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon and 31% Merlot ... many would have hung the wine on the Sauvignon, because it really was the vintage for that grape, but David is a fan of Franc and thus wears his love on his sleeve (or at least on the label). Spicy tobacco and blueberry on the nose which follows very much the same line on the palate. There's a nice hit of chocolate-blueberry on the finish, just before the subtle white pepper note kicks in. Nice length to the finish and god value too. Price: $16.75 - Rating: ****
