Chateau des Charmes 2011 Aligote
A very pleasant white made here in Ontario from a Burgundian white grape that's not Chardonnay. To tell you where Aligote sits in the world ranking it was the 22nd most planted grape in 2004 ... I am sure it has dropped further down the list since then. But the Chateau persists and with good reason, on a hot day it makes a heck of a pleasant sipper. The nose is a mix of peach and green apple while the palate delivers lime and grapefruit zest upon entry while pear and green apple fight on the finish. Also impressive is the good acidity and persistent length. Price: $13.95 - Rating: *** 1/2+
