Rockway's new direction continues to impress, and this Syrah shows they're serious about the direction they're taking. New winemaker David Stasiuk turns what could have been a potential candied mess (due to the warmer than usual temperatures of the vintage) into a genuine Syrah with smoky, licorice, raspberry and smoked meat aromas leading to a palate full of tobacco, black cherry and plenty of smokiness. It takes about 3-4 sips to really understand where this wine is going, but by then you'll pick up on the long smoked-raspberry finish. Price: $21.95 - Rating: *** 1/2+
