Vineland Estates 2011 Riesling - Dry
2011 was one of those strange years in Ontario winemaking, some loved it, some hated it, some just thought it was typical for an Ontario vintage ... but 2011 will most-likely be a footnote as it comes between two excellent vintages, namely 2010 and 2012 - which have so far proven (or in the case of 2012 talked about) as some of Ontario's best vintages ever (for reds). Vineland is a proven performer in the Riesling department and make quite a few that real show the versatility of this grape in the cooler confines of an Ontario vintage. This version of the dry Riesling has green apple on the nose with lemon-lime notes ... on the palate the lemon and apple continue with big acidity and green apple pucker to the finish, and it is dry for sure. My only complaint would be some bound up sulfur that seems to stick around on the finish, but this should resolve itself with a little aeration in the glass. Price: $13.95 - Rating: *** 1/2
