The fruit for this Chardonnay is from a Niagara-on-the-Lake vineyard owned by Kevin Watson – it spent 16 months in French barrels, 25% of which were new. And, of course, it was made in Prince Edward County. An interesting golden colour greets you in the glass – aromas are full on baked apple with nutmeg, cinnamon, baked peach and poached pear. The palate is where this wine really comes into its own – creamy smooth with vanilla, apple and pear puree along with a sweetness that isn’t even hinted at on the nose. Acidity isn’t rightly apparent until after you swallow and your cheeks start to sweat a bit. There’s a quaffability to this Chardonnay which is inspired by its apparent sweetness and creaminess.
