Uncloaked does not mean without oak - in fact the Merlot in this bottle saw 12 months worth of older oak barrels ... no, this wine is uncloaked cause it marks the first time this incarnation of Southbrook (in Niagara) has made a varietal Merlot without dressing it up with other grapes in a blend. It shows a purity of fruit with a mix of red and black fruit and even a little blue ... it all follows onto the palate where the fruit takes center stage with oak backing. The finish shows some pencil shavings and raspberry nuances. Only 155 cases produced. Price: $34.95 - Rating: ****
