Megalomaniac 2006 Narcissist Riesling
This Riesling is made from the grapes grown on “Edna’s Vineyard” – owned by Edna Thompson … John Howard goes out of his way on the back of the bottle to let us know this information. But this is not unusual for Mr. Howard – it seems he knows winemaking is not a solo-effort and for a “Megalomaniac” he’s very gratious about giving thanks to both his winemaker, Andrzej Lipinski, and his vineyard manager, Duante Oliveira. This Riesling owes a lot to those people, because Riesling is one grape that expresses terroir better than any other … “they” say that Chard is made in the winery and Riesling is made in the vineyard (and “they” always know best). This one has a nose of peach, apples, melon and orange blossom, while in the mouth, it becomes multi-layered: lemon rind beginning, that melon becomes tart apple as it continues through the mouth, then the swallow brings a lingering white peach finish … excellent wine for anytime – and could age well for the next 5 years or more.
